Sunday Service in the Jurich Home

On January 21, 2024, Encounter Church gathered in the living room of Roger and Sheryl Jurich. Our usual meeting spot for Sunday service was undergoing construction and brutally cold temperatures and they were gracious enough to open up their home to EC. What unfolded that morning was more than just a service; it was a moment of community, worship, and presence that we’ll never forget.

With acoustic worship gently filling the space, the atmosphere was peaceful and expectant. Voices blended naturally with guitar strings, prayers felt closer, and the Spirit of God moved through the room like a soft wind. Without lights or stage, the focus returned to the basics—Jesus and His people, gathered together.

This kind of worship reminded each of us of the early church—small groups of believers breaking bread and praising God in homes, just like Acts 2 describes. There was something sacred about hearing God’s Word in such an intimate setting, where hearts were open and distractions were few.

That Sunday in a living room reminded us that church is not about buildings—it’s about people. It’s about being together, lifting up Jesus, and creating space for others to draw near to Him. Whether in a sanctuary, a gym, or a living room, His presence meets us wherever two or more are gathered.

Our little church left their home refreshed, encouraged, and reminded of what matters most.

Thank you to Roger and Cheryl Jerrick for opening up your home to the Encounter Church family. Your hospitality created more than a space—it created an environment for encounter with Jesus. You welcomed us with open arms, and through your generosity, we experienced church in its simplest, purest form.
