A Candlelight Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve 2023, Encounter Church had the incredible opportunity to partner with Madison Home, a local non-profit serving individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. On a chilly winter evening, hearts were warmed as we came together to serve a hot meal and hope to the residents of Madison Home.

With meals generously provided by Jackson’s Restaurant, we were able to serve a hearty dinner that felt more like a family gathering than a food line. Plates were filled, drinks were poured, and conversations flowed easily around the tables. It was more than just dinner—it was a shared moment of dignity, compassion, and care.

Watching our volunteers serve meals with a smile—that’s what the heart of Jesus looks like in action.

After dinner, we joined together—residents, volunteers, and friends—for a time of Christmas caroling by candlelight. The room glowed with soft, flickering light as we lifted our voices and sang Silent Night. Some sang softly, some swayed gently, and others simply closed their eyes and listened.

In that moment, it didn’t matter who came from where, or what brought us to this space. For one night, we were united—a family under the light of Christ, celebrating the Savior who came for all.

Serving at Madison Home reminded us of why we do what we do. Ministry doesn’t always look like a sermon or a Sunday service. Sometimes, it looks like a warm plate, a kind smile, and a song shared by candlelight. It looks like showing up, even in the busy holiday season, to remind someone: You are not forgotten. You are deeply loved.

May we carry this spirit of service with us all year long.
