EC’s First Life Group

On Wednesday, October 25th, Encounter Church gathered for a major milestone in our journey as a church family—our very first Life Group!

Held midweek in the warmth of the Jurich home, this Life Group kicked off what we believe will be a powerful rhythm of spiritual growth, authentic connection, and deep discipleship throughout our community.

Life Groups are small, intentional gatherings of 3 to 12 people who meet throughout the week to share what God is teaching them, to pray together, offer encouragement, and grow in Christ-centered community. It’s not just another event on the calendar—it’s a space where faith becomes personal, friendships deepen, and we walk out the teachings from Sunday morning in our everyday lives.

Our Pastor, Jamie Jordan, led this first session with a study in Acts 1:1–8—a powerful moment in Scripture where Jesus commissions His followers right before ascending into heaven. The passage highlights a key spiritual tension: the call to "go" and be witnesses versus the instruction to "wait" for the Holy Spirit.

Jamie brought this idea to life with a story many of us remember from EC’s very first Sunday. He shared a personal experience of watching surfers from the shore—admiring their skill, power, and freedom. Eventually, he decided to get in the water himself. And that’s when the real challenge—and joy—began.

“Are you watching your faith from a distance, or are you catching waves with Jesus?”

This question hit home for many in the room. It challenged us to examine whether we are spectators in our walk with Christ or active participants—willing to step into the uncertainty and movement of God’s will.

Just like in Acts 1, there are seasons where God asks us to wait—and seasons when He calls us to go. The key is learning to listen, discern, and obey.

So this week, as a church, we’re reflecting together:

• Are you a watcher or a surfer in your faith?

• If you're still watching from the shoreline, what’s holding you back from stepping in?

• Is this a season of waiting for the Holy Spirit’s direction, or is God asking you to step out now?
